Each year young musicians from across the United States, as well as from countries around the world, choose to pursue advanced musicianship through undergraduate and graduate study at the University of Connecticut. Our faculty of more than forty outstanding performers, scholars, and educators provides a unique and stimulating environment for musical study and performance. Our curricula and degree programs stress the development of the fundamental musical skills necessary for all musicians and at the same time provide the discipline and rigor for advanced study and performance at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our students bring to us musical talent and inquisitive minds. We train musicians who have the skills and knowledge to be professionally competitive.

Our public performances provide a forum for the presentation of exciting new music and a reexamination of musical classics in light of current practices and research. Other professional activities in the Department of Music include recordings that enhance the vitality of music as a living art, plus the publication of books, scholarly articles, and critical editions of musical scores that influence and enhance the way musicians view various aspects of our field.
