Meredith ZieglerAmerican mezzo soprano Meredith Ziegler is an artist whose work is rapidly gaining visibility in both the United States and abroad. Her recent appearances in the role of Meg Page in Falstaff with Opera North and Mercedes in Carmen with Connecticut Opera add to her already growing list of operatic roles under such conductors as Willie Anthony Waters and Cal Stewart Kellogg. These roles include Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Zulma (L'Italiana in Algeri), Inez (Il Trovatore), Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Siebel (Faust), and Iolanthe (Iolanthe).

Upcoming engagements for the 2007–2008 season include Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) with Opera Theater of Connecticut, Dido (Dido and Aeneas) with Connecticut Lyric Opera, mezzo soloist at the Sanibel Music Festival, and the mezzo soloist in Mozart's Requiem with Connecticut Valley Chamber Orchestra. In May 2008, Ziegler will make her company and role debut as Dorabella (Così fan tutte) with Granite State Opera.

Internationally, Ziegler's work has taken her to Graz, Austria, where, in 2005, she was a soloist with the AIMS Festival Orchestra for performances of Bernstein's Arias and Barcarolles. Closer to home, she has appeared as a soloist in Berlioz's Les nuits d'été as well as in Bach's St. John Passion and Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, with the Holyoke Civic Symphony and the New Haven Oratorio Choir.

In November 2007, Ziegler was the recipient of an Encouragement Award from the Sullivan Foundation. She was a 2007 regional finalist in the New England Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and won second place in the 2006 Connecticut Opera Guild Scholarship Competition. She received second prize in the 2007 Amici Vocal Competition (Young Professional Division).

Ziegler was a young artist with Connecticut Opera from 2005–2007 and a principal young artist with Opera North in 2007. She also has participated at the American Institute of Musical Studies (Austria) and is a former young artist of Shaker Mountain Opera. Ziegler holds a bachelor of arts degree in music and a bachelor's degree in music education as well as a master of music degree in vocal performance from the University of Connecticut.
