Davis earned a bachelor of arts degree in music education at Northeastern Illinois University and a master's degree in jazz studies at Rutgers University. He has studied string bass with Warren Benfield of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Jeff Bradetich, currently of the University of North Texas. His jazz mentors include Ron Carter and Dave Holland. In addition to his responsibilities in the Department of Music, Davis serves on the Advisory Board of the Institute for African American Studies. Davis teaches string bass, jazz history, small jazz ensembles and improvisation at the University of Connecticut. |
