Undergraduate Applications and Auditions

Study towards the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts in Music, or the Bachelor of Science in Music Education degrees requires significant prior training and evidence of a high level of personal motivation. For this reason, applicants for the above programs are expected to complete an audition as part of the admission procedure. The following steps should be taken by those seeking admission as a music major:

1. SUBMIT AN APPLICATION for admission to the University of Connecticut.

Applications may be obtained online at www.admissions.uconn.edu or from the Admissions office at the address and phone number below. Please be sure to indicate your intention to enter the School of Fine Arts as a music major.

2. WRITE OR PHONE the Department of Music to set up an appointment for an audition.

Auditions are scheduled on specific dates during the academic year, listed below. Please call as early as possible in order to reserve a date for the audition. The office of the Department of Music may be reached at the following address and phone number:

3. PREPARE for the audition, aural preparedness test and music fundamentals test.

On the day of their audition, all applicants to the undergraduate program in music are required to take an aural preparedness examination and a music fundamentals test. In addition, all applicants are required to perform an audition. The specific audition requirements for each instrument or for voice can be viewed by clicking on the links below.

2008-2009 Audition Dates

Audition days provide an opportunity for the Department of Music to evaluate the abilities of each applicant as well as an opportunity for parents and prospective students to learn more about the department and the University of Connecticut. Representatives of the department also discuss many aspects of the college experience, musical careers, the admissions procedure, and musical life at the university. Scholarships

There are various forms of scholarship at UConn. You may look at several on the UConn admissions website. The Department of Music also offers scholarship opportunities based on several factors:

1. Talent — based solely on the student's abilities on his or her respective instrument.
2. Departmental need — based upon the need of the department to balance studios, ensembles, and the curriculum.
3. Specific scholarships — given to players of specific instruments or targeted for particular student needs. Awards are based upon the above criteria, academic standing, and musical potential.

Graduate Applications and Auditions

All graduate applicants in music must submit a completed application form to the Graduate School of the University of Connecticut. Application forms may be downloaded from the Graduate School website.

In addition to the application form, transcripts of all collegiate level work must be sent to the Graduate School.
