There are two parts to a submission for this prize. First, a written proposal describing the idea or concept of the work to be composed for Brass Quintet and Wind Ensemble should be provided including the approximate duration of the work and its proposed instrumentation.

Composers should submit scores with recordings of up to 30 minutes of music previously composed by them for any medium. The first five minutes of the recording should be excerpts of the composer’s most representative work. The excerpted portions must be clearly marked in the scores. The scores and recordings may be either published or unpublished, although all should be clearly marked with the title, date of composition, and composer's name. Recordings must be either on CD or standard cassette tape––no DAT, MIDI files, or mini-disk recordings will be accepted. Scores should be marked to indicate those portions included on the accompanying recording. Program notes may be included. Accompanying the submission will be a brief biography of the composer including academic training and employment as well as a list of works composed with dates of their first performances.
