Bach took over the direction of Leipzig's Collegium Musicum, a student organization dedicated to the performance of new instrumental music. Having been engaged with the development of "a well-regulated church music" in Leipzig for six years, he now turned back to instrumental repertory. The Collegium Musicum will present a selection of Bach's instrumental and vocal music from this period, including Cantata 147, Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, which includes the famous melody "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring."
