UConn music education graduates are both accomplished musicians and effective teachers. The five year course of study allows time for significant development of musical skills, including fundamental musicianship and performance, and the development of extensive pedagogical expertise. Music Education majors, like all other music majors, have a one hour per week private lesson with a member of our artist faculty. In contrast to many other programs in the United States, a great deal of emphasis is placed on practical teaching experience during the final two years of study. Student life at UConn is both exciting and tranquil. The rural campus setting provides a beautiful atmosphere for study and recreation, including attendance at a wide range of musical, cultural and athletic events. From NCAA championship teams in women's and men's basketball to world-class musical and artistic offerings, the UConn experience truly offers something for everyone! UConn 2000, a $1 billion, 10 year program to enhance, renew, and rebuild UConn's main campus in Storrs, is funding new building construction, renovations and additions to existing facilities, new equipment and infrastructure improvements. The new Fine Arts complex is perhaps the most visible element of this initiative for music students. This state-of-the-art addition includes a new Music Library, rehearsal halls and practice facilities as well as tech-savvy computer labs, classrooms and studios. |
